Welcome to the September 2021 edition of the Health Care Alliance for Patient Safety (HCAPS)’s monthly newsletter!

Meet the New HCAPS

If you visit the HCAPS website, you may notice that things look a little different.

As we continue our work to protect patient safety, we want to make sure our website accurately reflects all of our issue areas. Our work is not limited to only vision care and eliminating robocalls in the prescription verification process, but also protecting children’s vision, access to health care, and more.

You can check out the updates to our website now. We look forward to working together as we announce new initiatives that will protect the safety of patients across the country.

HCAPS Joins Return to Care Coalition

We have seen a number of patients delaying the necessary care they need for their vision and overall health as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Return to Care coalition was created by patient advocacy organizations and medical societies to urge patients to receive the care they need.

HCAPS is happy to announce that we are a new member of the Return to Care coalition! We are excited to promote public health and educate patients about the importance of returning to routine care, especially for vision health.

Visit the coalition’s website to learn more and view resources.

Take Action for Patient Safety

Have your members of Congress signed on to the Contact Lens Prescription Verification Modernization Act? If not, tweet at your Representative and Senators today and ask them to sign on!

Confirming the accuracy of contact lens prescriptions is too complicated for an automated phone system. This critical legislation will protect patient safety for the millions of Americans who rely on contact lenses by eliminating robocalls in the prescription verification process and instead establishing a paper trail to confirm prescriptions and ensure patients are receiving the correct lenses.

Urge your members of Congress to become co-sponsors of this bill to protect patient safety.

Thank you for continuing to be one of our advocates.
