AOA on the Hill Recap
Your advocacy efforts fuel our work, and we've been busy bringing your voice right to Washington, D.C.! Our AOA On The Hill events were a huge success, bringing the optometry community together to reinforce the doctor-patient relationship. We had powerful meetings with Congressional offices, urging them to take immediate action on HCAPS priorities and showing them just how vital optometry is to patient health. The energy peaked at our packed briefing, “Safe Vision, Trusted Care: Protecting the Doctor–Patient Relationship.” Our event was a powerhouse of advocacy, drawing massive interest from Congressional staff! Our message was clear: vision care is essential to protecting long-term health. We used our platform to champion the Contact Lens Prescription Verification Modernization Act (H.R. 4282) and push for federal engagement on the growing myopia epidemic.

Advocacy Spotlight
Members of the Health Care Alliance for Patient Safety (HCAPS) maintain a consistent presence in Washington, D.C., working to protect and defend the doctor-patient relationship. Our Partners are a driving force behind this work.
Dr. Charissa Lee from our Partner Johnson & Johnson, proudly took to the hill to share HCAPS' mission to protect and defend the doctor-patient relationship, which is the essential foundation of personalized health care decision-making. Dr. Lee made it clear to congressional staff that patient-centered vision care must remain a top priority, touching on both the need to combat the childhood myopia epidemic and build support for the Contact Lens Prescription Verification Modernization Act (H.R. 4282).

Contact Lens Safety Month
October is Contact Lens Safety Month, a critical time to reinforce safe use and care practices of contact lenses, and to confront policies that compromise patient safety. The health of the more than 45 million contact lens wearers in America is put at risk every day by a major loophole: the use of automated, passive robocalls to "verify" contact lens prescriptions.
That's why HCAPS is focused on advocating for the Contact Lens Prescription Verification Modernization Act (H.R. 4282). This bipartisan legislation will prohibit contact lens bad actors from using robocalls for prescription verification.
Take action today and tell your representative to support the Contact Lens Prescription Verification Modernization Act!
